Chapter 7 - The Party That Turned Into a Raid

The front doors were pushed wide open by two deputies.
The cheerful music was cut off instantly.
Inside the living room, twelve of Julian’s executive colleagues from his mid-tier financial consulting firm froze with cocktail skewers in their hands.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Sheriff Stone announced to the stunned party guests. “This gathering is concluded. Collect your personal belongings, exit through the front lawn, and proceed immediately to your vehicles. Anyone remaining on the property in ten minutes will be detained for criminal obstruction.”
Whispers exploded like wildfire.
“Wait… Julian doesn't own this house?” a woman in a Chanel dress whispered in horror.
“He told the managing director he bought this place in cash!” a partner muttered, quickly grabbing his blazer and bolting out the door.
One by one, their wealthy friends hurried past Julian with expressions of utter disgust and embarrassment, shielding their faces from the flashing squad car lights as they drove away.
Khloe burst into hysterical tears, clutching Julian’s arm. “Natalie! Stop this! You’re humiliating us in front of Julian’s entire corporate firm!”

I walked across the threshold of my home, stopping three feet from my sister.
“You made our 62-year-old mother scrub grease off outdoor counters with her bare hands, Khloe,” I said, my voice quiet, freezing, and immovable. “You stole her medicine money for your designer dresses. You don't get to speak about humiliation.”
