Chapter 6 - THE GHOST WHO CAME BACK FOR REVENGE

Viktor Varga had been declared dead twelve years earlier.

His body had supposedly been recovered after an explosion at a warehouse outside Prague.

Sofia had never believed it.

The evidence had been too convenient.

The timing too perfect.

And several witnesses had disappeared before testifying.

Now Varga was alive.

And working with Marco Bandi.

Nicolo stared at the photograph.

"I know that man."

Sofia nodded.

"So do I."

"He was supposed to be dead."

"Apparently, he disagreed."

Nicolo looked at her.

"What does he want?"

Sofia's expression hardened.

"Revenge."

"Against you?"

"Against everyone who helped bring down his organization."

Nicolo considered.

"And Marco?"

"Marco wants your territory."

He laughed bitterly.

"My own brother."

Sofia watched him.

"Family doesn't guarantee loyalty."

Nicolo looked at her.

"No."

Investigators began reviewing financial records connected to Marco.

They identified suspicious transfers.

Shell companies.

Payments to private security contractors.

And communications with people linked to Varga's surviving network.

Nicolo cooperated reluctantly.

He provided records.

Names.

Meeting locations.

But he also understood the consequences.

His own criminal activities would come under scrutiny.

Sofia made that clear.

"Helping us doesn't erase your past."

Nicolo nodded.

"I know."

"Then why help?"

He looked at the photograph of Marco.

"Because my brother tried to kill me."

Sofia waited.

Nicolo continued.

"And because he threatened your daughter."

She studied him.

"Those aren't the same reason."

He looked at her.

"No."

Then he said something that surprised them both.

"But they're both enough."
