Chapter 13 - THE WEDDING NOBODY EXPECTED

We married in a small church in Queens.
Not a cathedral.
Not a mansion.
Not a private island.
The same neighborhood where I'd grown up.
Elena stood beside me.
Marcus cried.
Rebecca smiled.
And Dante looked as though he couldn't believe I was walking toward him.
I wore a simple ivory dress.
My mother's necklace.
And shoes that didn't hurt.
That last detail mattered more than anyone realized.
When I reached Dante, he took my hands.
“You look beautiful.”
I smiled.
“You look expensive.”
He laughed.
“Still?”
“Always.”
The ceremony was simple.
Honest.
Full of people who loved us.
When we exchanged vows, Dante promised never to use fear where kindness would do.
I promised to tell him the truth, even when it made him uncomfortable.
Especially then.
After the ceremony, we returned to Murphy's Table for dinner.
The restaurant was filled with laughter.
Music.
Good food.
And the kind of happiness that didn't need to impress anyone.

For once, Dante Caruso wasn't the most feared man in New York.
He was simply my husband.
