Chapter 9 - THE MAN WHO REFUSED TO LOOK AWAY
Thomas was found the following morning.
A transit employee had noticed an elderly man sitting alone at a suburban train station.
He appeared confused.
His medication schedule had been disrupted.
He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Nina rushed to his bedside.
"Dad."
He looked up.
"Nina."
She hugged him carefully.
"Oh, Dad."
He held her hand.
"I'm sorry."
She shook her head.
"Don't apologize."
He looked frightened.
"Two men came to the apartment."
Nina froze.
"What men?"
"They said they were from your office."
Her stomach dropped.
"They told me you needed me to come with them."
Nina closed her eyes.
Thomas continued.
"I thought something had happened to you."
His voice trembled.
"They drove me somewhere. Asked questions."
"What questions?"
"About your work."
Nina swallowed.
"Did they hurt you?"
He shook his head.
"No."
She hugged him again.
But the fear remained.
