Chapter 10 - THE TRANSLATION THAT EXPOSED THE BETRAYAL

The investigation intensified.

Vivien contacted the relevant authorities.

The company preserved records and suspended dealings with Bertellini's organization.

Nina continued reviewing documents under enhanced security arrangements.

Then she found it.

A memorandum written in Italian.

It referred to an internal contact at Moretti Imports.

Someone who had provided confidential commercial information to the Bertellini group.

The contact was identified only by initials.

R.D.

Nina stared.

R.D.

Robert Donovan.

The accounting executive who liked his bagel toasted on one side.

She brought the memorandum to Vivien.

Vivien's face tightened.

"We need to verify this."

Nina nodded.

"I know."

The investigation examined financial records, access logs, and communications.

The evidence pointed toward Donovan.

He had helped route confidential documents to the foreign delegation.

He had also received unexplained payments through an intermediary.

When confronted by investigators, he denied wrongdoing.

But the records contradicted him.

Adrien stood beside the conference room window when Vivien delivered the news.

For a long moment, he said nothing.

Then he looked at Nina.

"You were right."

She shook her head.

"We still need the full truth."

Adrien nodded.

May you like

"Yes."

And for the first time, he seemed willing to let someone else lead the search.
