Chapter 14 - The Banishment to the Montana Snow

Chief Federal Litigator Julian Hayes stepped forward, unzipping an encrypted leather briefcase, laying four certified federal court orders before the stunned directors.

“Under Title 18 of the United States Code,” Julian Hayes announced in an icy, measured baritone, “all voting proxies, trust entitlements, and corporate shares formerly claimed by Victoria Moretti and Julian Vance are officially declared null, void, and criminally fraudulent ab initio.”

Julian Hayes presented the unsealed discovery decrees:

The Grand Larceny Indictment: Proof that Victoria and Julian had embezzled $64 million from the Moretti Family Foundation into offshore accounts in Zurich.

The Federal Murder Warrants: Charges of Attempted Capital Homicide of Minors and Conspiracy to Commit Extortion.

The New York Purge: Arthur Castiglione’s commercial shipping licenses revoked under immediate federal RICO attachments, forcing the New York syndicate into immediate unconditional surrender.

Arthur Castiglione raised his hands in absolute terror. “Adrian! I had no part in the nursery raid! Victoria told me the children were already in custody! I surrender all territorial claims in Gary and Detroit! Just let me walk out of this city!”

“Get out of my sight, Arthur,” I said without looking at him. “If a single Castiglione asset enters Illinois again, there will be no negotiations.”

Castiglione fled the boardroom like a whipped dog, leaving Victoria standing alone before the wreckage of her ambition.

I looked down at the woman who had given me life, feeling no hatred, no anger—only a profound, immovable disgust.

“You will not spend your days in a comfortable federal camp, Victoria,” I told her softly.

Victoria’s eyes widened in horror. “Adrian… what are you doing to me?!”

“At six o'clock this morning,” I said, “I finalized the purchase of an enclosed, forty-acre timber estate in the remote Absaroka Range of northern Montana. There is a small cabin. There is firewood. There is a satellite emergency beacon that connects solely to Marcus Reed’s office.”

I stepped closer, letting her see the complete, absolute finality in my eyes.

“You will reside there for the remainder of your natural life. You will have no internet, no smartphones, no bank accounts, and no visitors. If you step one foot past the perimeter fence, the local sheriff has standing orders to arrest you for criminal trespass.”

Victoria collapsed forward onto the mahogany table, letting out a broken, hopeless wail as two female federal marshals secured heavy iron transport chains around her manicured wrists.

“Adrian! I am your mother!” she shrieked, her pearls snapping, scattering across the floorboards as she was hauled toward the service elevators. “You can't banish me! You can't erase me!”

“You erased yourself the day you signed that cancellation order, Victoria,” I whispered.

The heavy bronze doors closed behind her forever.

The shadows that had choked the Moretti family for thirty years had finally been burned to ash.
