Chapter 10 - THE WAITRESS WHO CHOSE HERSELF

Emma returned to Moran's Grill after the investigation.
Frank had been located and questioned.
He admitted that Nolan had pressured him into sending Emma to the mansion.
He had accepted money.
He had lied.
And he had known the job wasn't what he'd promised.
Emma listened to his apology.
Then handed him her resignation.
Frank stared.
"Emma."
She shook her head.
"No."
"I made a mistake."
"You sold my trust."
His face fell.
"I was scared."
Emma looked at him.
"So was I."
Then she walked out.
For the first time in five years, Emma didn't know where her next paycheck would come from.
But she knew she couldn't keep working for a man who had betrayed her.
Adrian offered to help.
Emma refused his money.
Instead, she asked for something else.
A recommendation.
Adrian looked surprised.
For what?
I want to apply for a hospitality management program.
He smiled.
Then let's find someone qualified to recommend you.
Emma enrolled in evening classes.
She found work at a small independent hotel.
The pay wasn't spectacular.
But the manager respected her.
The schedule was predictable.
And she began to believe she could build something beyond survival.
Her mother's care stabilized after a social worker helped Emma access appropriate assistance programs.
The immediate financial pressure eased.
Not magically.
Not overnight.

But enough for Emma to breathe.
And for the first time in years, she began making plans that extended beyond the next bill.
