Chapter 4 - THE DOCTOR WHO SOLD A LIE

Nathaniel hired an independent investigative team.
They reviewed publicly available records, financial transactions accessible through lawful means, and documents Julian had received during the engagement.
Dr. Adrian Keene was a respected fertility specialist.
At least, that was how Sloane described him.
But the records told a different story.
Keene had previously faced professional disciplinary complaints.
His clinic had changed ownership twice.
And several companies associated with him had unusual financial connections to Sloane's family.
Julian stared at the report.
“Are you telling me he fabricated medical records?”
Nathaniel shook his head.
“Not yet. We have concerns, not proof.”
Julian nodded.
“Then find proof.”
Meanwhile, Sloane continued calling.
She left messages.
Cried.
Threatened to cancel the wedding.
Then apologized.
Julian didn't answer.
He communicated through Nathaniel.
Three days later, an independent medical review was proposed.
Sloane refused.
She claimed the request was humiliating.
Julian responded that the wedding and related financial arrangements would remain postponed until the matter was resolved.
That evening, Tess received a message from an unknown number.
You should have stayed in the kitchen.
Her blood ran cold.
She contacted Nathaniel.
He advised her to preserve the message and report the threat.
Julian learned about it an hour later.
He called Tess.
“Are you safe?”
She hesitated.
“I think so.”
“Where are you?”
“At home.”
He took a breath.
“Please don't ignore this.”
She looked toward the dark hallway outside her apartment.
May you like
“I won't.”
For the first time, Tess understood that telling the truth could make her a target.
