Chapter 14 - THE PROPOSAL BESIDE THE DINER

Vincent proposed outside Rosy's Diner.
It was October again.
The air was crisp.
Leaves covered the sidewalk.
Emily had just finished her shift.
She stepped outside and found Vincent waiting.
Luca stood beside him holding a green crayon.
Emily smiled.
“What are you two doing here?”
Vincent looked nervous.
She frowned.
“Everything okay?”
He nodded.
“More than okay.”
Luca handed her a drawing.
Three people.
A house.
A green dragon.
Emily looked up.
Vincent knelt.
Her breath caught.
He opened a small velvet box.
Inside was a simple diamond ring.
“Emily Carter,” he said, “you walked into our lives when we had forgotten how to laugh.”
His voice trembled.
“You never tried to replace Catherine.”
“You never demanded that Luca speak.”
“You simply made room for us to heal.”
Tears filled Emily's eyes.
Vincent continued.
“I love you.”
He smiled.
“And I want to spend the rest of my life proving that.”
He took a breath.
“Will you marry me?”
Emily nodded.
“Yes.”
Luca jumped.
“YES!”
They laughed.
Vincent slipped the ring onto her finger.
Then kissed her.
Luca tugged at Emily's sleeve.
She looked down.
He smiled.
“Can we get pancakes now?”
Emily burst out laughing.
May you like
“Of course.”
And together, they walked into Rosy's.
