Vanessa had known Elena long before the Moretti estate.
Six years earlier, Elena had worked part-time at a private club where Vanessa frequently attended events.

She'd been arguing with a young woman near the terrace.
The argument escalated.
A glass shattered.
The woman fell down a short staircase.
Elena had witnessed everything.
The injured woman survived.
But Vanessa's father arranged a private settlement.

She was nineteen.

Dante learned about it when Marco located a former club employee.
He stared at the report.
“Why would Vanessa care about Elena now?”
Marco hesitated.
“Because the woman who fell down the stairs has recently reopened the case.”
Dante frowned.
“Who?”
Marco handed him another photograph.
A woman in her early thirties.
Dark hair.
A faint scar near her temple.
Dante recognized her immediately.
“Isabella Russo.”
Marco nodded.
Dante's former fiancée.
The woman who had disappeared from his life six years earlier.
Dante stood.
“What does Isabella have to do with Elena?”
