Chapter 11 - THE NIGHT HE TOLD ME EVERYTHING

Alessandro invited me to his home in Lake Forest.

I hesitated.

Then agreed.

The estate was enormous.

Stone walls.

Tall windows.

A long driveway lined with old trees.

But inside, it was surprisingly quiet.

He showed me the library.

The garden.

A room filled with photographs of his parents.

Then we sat beside the fireplace.

“There's something I need to tell you,” he said.

I looked at him.

“Okay.”

He took a breath.

“My father built the Rossi organization through violence.”

I remained silent.

“I inherited it.”

He looked down.

“And for years, I convinced myself that keeping control was the only way to protect my family.”

I waited.

He continued.

“I did things I'm not proud of.”

My chest tightened.

“Alessandro—”

He shook his head.

“I don't want you to love a version of me that doesn't exist.”

He explained the legal restructuring of his businesses.

The independent oversight.

The cooperation with authorities where required.

The difficult decisions.

The people who left.

The consequences he still faced.

I listened.

Then asked, “Why tell me now?”

He looked at me.

“Because I love you.”

My breath caught.

He continued.

“And because I don't want that love built on secrets.”

I stared at him.

For a long moment, I couldn't speak.

Then I whispered, “I love you too.”

His eyes filled.

But I wasn't finished.

“Alessandro, love doesn't erase responsibility.”

He nodded.

“I know.”

“And I won't become part of a life built on fear.”

“I know.”

I took his hand.

“Then keep choosing differently.”

He smiled.

“Every day.”

That night, he kissed me.

Slowly.

Tenderly.

And for the first time, I wasn't afraid of what loving him might mean.

May you like

Because I wasn't surrendering my life.

I was choosing who could share it.
