Chapter 9 - THE MANAGER WHO SOLD A SECRET

Daniel Mercer had not acted alone.
He'd been hired by a former associate of Vincent Voss to locate Thomas Ellis and recover the missing construction records.
Daniel discovered Mrs. Ellis was searching for her son.
He manipulated her.
Fed her false information.
And used The Linden Room as a meeting point.
But when he realized I had unknowingly become connected to Mrs. Ellis, he began watching me.
The photographs found in his office were part of that surveillance.
I felt sick when Detective Bell explained it.
Daniel hadn't fired me merely because I'd paid for lunch.
He'd wanted me away from Mrs. Ellis.
My kindness had interfered with his plan.
The thought made me furious.
Then something else occurred to me.
If I'd walked away that day...
If I'd ignored Mrs. Ellis...
If I'd accepted Daniel's cruelty...
Thomas might never have been found.
I looked at Detective Bell.
"What's going to happen to Daniel?"
He answered carefully.
"That depends on the evidence and the charges prosecutors pursue."
I nodded.
For once, I didn't want revenge.
May you like
I wanted accountability.
And I wanted my father's name cleared.
