Chapter 10 - THE COURTROOM WHERE THE TRUTH RETURNED

The legal proceedings took months.

Investigators reviewed old construction records.

Witnesses testified.

Financial documents were examined.

The evidence showed that safety violations had been concealed before my father's death.

The responsible companies faced civil claims and regulatory consequences.

Several individuals were charged in connection with the cover-up and later intimidation.

Adrian testified about what he'd witnessed as a young man.

His testimony was difficult.

He admitted he'd remained silent.

He acknowledged his family's involvement.

And he accepted questions about his own past.

I watched from the courtroom.

For the first time, I saw him without the protection of wealth or reputation.

Just a man answering questions under oath.

Afterward, he approached me.

"Sophie."

I looked up.

"Thank you."

He frowned.

"For what?"

"For telling the truth."

His expression softened.

"I should have done it sooner."

I nodded.

"Yes."

Then, after a pause, I added:

"But I'm glad you did it now."

May you like

He smiled faintly.

And something between us changed.
