Chapter 10 - THE MAN WHO CHOSE THE LAW

Investigators determined the fire had been deliberately set.
Security footage showed a man entering the rear service corridor shortly before the alarm.
The suspect had connections to Falcone's organization.
Vincent's associates urged retaliation.
He refused.
Instead, he provided information to investigators through his attorney.
He handed over records connecting Falcone to the threats against Harper and her mother.
It was dangerous.
Cooperating meant exposing parts of his own world to scrutiny.
But Vincent had made a decision.
He would not answer every threat with another threat.
Not anymore.
When Harper learned what he'd done, she was stunned.
“You're helping the police?”
Vincent nodded.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
He looked at her.
“Because you asked me not to solve this with violence.”
She swallowed.
“And because?”
He smiled sadly.
“Because I'm tired of being the man everyone expects me to be.”
Harper looked down.
For the first time, she understood that change was possible.
Not easy.
May you like
Not immediate.
But possible.
