Chapter 12 - THE FALL OF ANTHONY BELL

Anthony Bell was arrested outside a warehouse in Newark.

Marco Romano was taken into custody the following morning.

The charges included financial crimes, conspiracy, and offenses connected to Catherine's death.

The investigation continued for months.

Vincent cooperated through his attorneys.

He provided financial records, communications, and information relevant to the case.

It was not an easy decision.

His businesses had operated for years in a world where secrets were currency.

But Catherine had died trying to expose corruption.

Vincent refused to let her sacrifice disappear into another lie.

During the proceedings, evidence established that Bell and Marco had participated in the scheme that led to Catherine's death.

The legal process was lengthy.

Witnesses testified.

Financial experts explained the transactions.

Investigators presented surveillance footage.

Vincent sat through the hearings.

He listened to every detail.

He did not look away.

When the verdicts were announced, he felt no triumph.

Only exhaustion.

Catherine was still gone.

Luca had still lost his mother.

Justice could not return the years they had missed.

But the truth was finally public.

That evening, Vincent returned home.

Luca was sitting at the kitchen table with Emily.

They were drawing.

Vincent paused in the doorway.

Luca looked up.

“Daddy!”

Vincent smiled.

“Hey, buddy.”

Luca held up a picture.

A house.

A garden.

Three people.

And a green tree.

Vincent looked at Emily.

She smiled.

“He says it's home.”

Vincent's throat tightened.

He knelt beside his son.

“It's beautiful.”

Luca pointed at the figures.

“Me.”

Then another.

“Daddy.”

Then the third.

“Emily.”

Vincent looked up.

Emily's eyes filled.

And for the first time in years, the Romano house felt less like a fortress.

And more like a home.
