Chapter 15 - THE THREE VOICES THAT SAVED A FAMILY

Five years after the night at the Onyx Room, Valentino Duca sat at a breakfast table covered in chaos.
Toast crumbs.
Schoolbooks.
Orange juice.
And three girls arguing about who had borrowed whose sweater.
Luna was eleven.
Stella was eleven.
Nova was eleven.
And they never stopped talking.
"Dad!"
"She took my pencil!"
"That's my notebook!"
"Becca, tell him!"
Valentino lowered his newspaper.
Then looked at Becca.
"Do you remember when they were quiet?"
She laughed.
"Don't you dare say you miss it."
He grinned.
"I wouldn't dream of it."
The family had changed.
Valentino's legitimate businesses operated under professional oversight.
His criminal past remained part of his history, with consequences he continued to address.
But his home was no longer ruled by fear.
Becca had completed her professional training and worked with children and families affected by trauma.
Noah's health had stabilized with ongoing medical care.
And Annie remained close to the family.
On the anniversary of Isabella's death, they visited a memorial garden.
The girls brought flowers.
Luna placed a white rose beside the stone.
Stella placed a yellow one.
Nova placed a pink one.
Valentino stood behind them.
Becca held his hand.
For a long moment, nobody spoke.
Then Luna turned.
"Dad?"
"Yes?"
"Do you think Mommy would be proud of us?"
Valentino knelt.
His eyes filled.
"More than you can imagine."
Stella hugged him.
Nova joined them.
Then Luna.
Becca watched quietly.
Later, the family returned home.
The girls ran into the garden.
Their laughter filled the air.
Valentino stood beside Becca.
"Do you ever think about that night?"
She smiled.
"At the restaurant?"
He nodded.
"All the time."
He looked toward his daughters.
"I thought I was losing them."
Becca took his hand.
"You were all hurting."
He nodded.
"And then you drew a triangle."
She smiled.
"It was only a line connecting three points."
Valentino looked at her.
"No."
His voice softened.
"It was the first time I understood that they were still reaching for us."
Becca rested her head against his shoulder.
In the garden, Luna called:
"Dad! Come play!"
Valentino smiled.
"Coming!"
He kissed Becca's forehead.
Then ran toward his daughters.
She watched him go.
The once-feared mafia boss.
The man who had entered rooms like a storm.
Now chasing three laughing girls through the grass.
And Becca understood something she had never fully appreciated before.
Healing was not a single miraculous moment.
It was not one word.
One drawing.
One kiss.
It was thousands of ordinary moments in which frightened people learned, slowly, that they were safe enough to live again.
The girls ran toward her.
"Becca!"
She opened her arms.
They collided with her in a laughing heap.
Valentino joined them.
And together, they fell onto the grass.
Above them, the sky was bright.
The garden was alive.
And the house that had once held only silence now overflowed with voices.
Three little girls.
May you like
One brave woman.
And a father who had finally learned that love was stronger when it stopped trying to control everything.
