Chapter 6 - THE THREE SONS WHO CHOSE THEIR MOTHER

The Voss brothers had spent their childhood watching their parents build a kingdom.
They had also watched that kingdom slowly consume their marriage.
Gideon remembered nights when Rosalind waited for Callum beside a cold dinner.
Beckett remembered finding his mother asleep over financial statements while Callum entertained business associates.
Piers remembered the day Rosalind missed his school recital because Callum demanded she attend an investor meeting.
For years, the brothers had believed their father would eventually notice what he was losing.
The anniversary gala ended that hope.
They met in Eleanor's living room on Sunday morning.
Rosalind sat at the head of the table.
Gideon placed three folders before her.
“Legal.”
Beckett placed another.
“Financial.”
Piers set down a cup of tea.
“Medical.”
Rosalind raised an eyebrow.
Piers smiled.
“Your cheek is healing. But you're not skipping breakfast again.”
She laughed.
It was the first genuine laugh they'd heard from her in days.
Gideon explained the legal strategy.
They would seek an injunction if necessary to protect trust assets.
Beckett would coordinate an independent forensic review.
Piers would continue his hospital work while supporting the family.
Rosalind listened.
Then said:
“I appreciate everything you're doing.”
Gideon nodded.
“But I need you to understand something.”
The brothers looked at her.
“This is not a war between you and your father.”
Piers opened his mouth.
She raised a hand.
“I know you're angry.”
He looked down.
“But I will not let my marriage become the reason you destroy your relationship with him.”
Gideon spoke quietly.
“Mom, he hurt you.”
“Yes.”
“And he betrayed the family.”
“Yes.”
“Then what do you want us to do?”
Rosalind looked at each of them.
“Tell the truth. Protect what is lawful. Refuse to become cruel.”
The room went silent.
Then Beckett nodded.
“Okay.”
Piers sighed.
“Okay.”
Gideon looked at his mother.
“You're still protecting us.”
Rosalind smiled sadly.
“I'm your mother. That part doesn't end.”
That afternoon, Callum arrived at the house.
He stood outside the gate.
Gideon went to meet him.
Callum looked exhausted.
“Where's your mother?”
“Inside.”
“I need to speak to her.”
Gideon studied him.
“Then ask.”
Callum stared.
“I'm her husband.”
Gideon shook his head.
“Not an answer.”
May you like
For the first time in his life, Callum Voss had to request permission to enter a house where his family lived.
And he discovered that his sons would not open the gate simply because he demanded it.
