Chapter 11 - THE DAY THE THREE SONS STOOD TOGETHER

The Voss brothers attended a family meeting with their father several months after the gala.
Rosalind had declined to attend.
She wanted the men to speak honestly without making her the center of every conversation.
They met in a neutral office.
Callum sat at one end of the table.
Gideon sat opposite him.
Beckett and Piers took the remaining chairs.
Callum looked at his sons.
“I know I've disappointed you.”
Piers laughed bitterly.
“That's one way to put it.”
Gideon raised a hand.
Piers stopped.
Callum continued.
“I don't expect forgiveness.”
Beckett leaned forward.
“Good.”
Callum looked at him.
Beckett placed a folder on the table.
“These are the financial records showing how much Mom contributed to the legitimate businesses over the years.”
Callum stared.
Beckett continued.
“Her work is documented. Her capital contributions are documented. Her decisions are documented.”
Gideon added:
“You spent years telling people she was lucky to be your wife.”
Callum lowered his eyes.
Piers spoke last.
“She spent years making sure we never saw the worst parts of your world.”
Callum looked at his youngest son.
Piers continued.
“She protected us from things you brought home.”
Silence.
Then Gideon said:
“We're not here to punish you.”
Callum looked up.
“We're here to tell you what has to change if you want a relationship with us.”
They spoke about honesty.
Accountability.
Respect.
And the need to stop using family loyalty as an excuse for wrongdoing.
Callum listened.
He did not interrupt.
At the end, Piers stood.
“I still love you, Dad.”
Callum's eyes filled.
“But Mom comes first right now.”
Callum nodded.
“I know.”
The brothers left together.
May you like
For the first time, Callum understood that his sons had not chosen their mother because she was weak.
They had chosen her because she had taught them what strength looked like.
