Chapter 12 - THE WOMAN WHO REFUSED TO BE SAVED

Rosalind returned to work full-time.

She reorganized the Bellwether housing initiative under independent governance.

The financial review helped recover some diverted funds, while new financing agreements stabilized the project.

She hired experienced administrators.

Established transparent reporting procedures.

And insisted that no family member receive special treatment.

Gideon offered to handle all the legal work without charge.

Rosalind smiled.

“No.”

He looked surprised.

“Mom.”

“You have a firm to run.”

“I want to help.”

“Then send me a proper engagement letter.”

He laughed.

Beckett offered to manage the finances.

Rosalind shook her head.

“Independent auditors.”

He grinned.

“That's my mother.”

Piers offered to volunteer at the community health center planned for the development.

Rosalind smiled.

“That, I'll accept.”

Months passed.

The project began moving forward again.

Rosalind visited construction sites.

Met future residents.

Spoke with city officials.

One afternoon, she stood beside a young mother named Hannah, who had been living in temporary accommodation with two children.

Hannah looked at the construction site.

“Do you think we'll really be able to move in?”

Rosalind smiled.

“Yes.”

Hannah's eyes filled.

Rosalind looked toward the unfinished buildings.

For years, she'd believed her most important work was holding her family together.

Now she understood that her life could contain more than one kind of purpose.

She had not stopped being a mother.

May you like

She had not stopped loving her sons.

But she had begun remembering the woman she was before the world reduced her to Callum Voss's wife.
