Chapter 8 - THE RECORDS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE

Adrian requested an independent medical review of Isabella's death.

The process took weeks.

He hired attorneys experienced in medical negligence matters and independent specialists qualified to assess the available records.

Emma stayed out of the investigation.

She supported Adrian emotionally but refused to speculate.

“I don't want to give you false hope or false certainty,” she told him.

He nodded.

“I understand.”

The review identified missing documentation and inconsistencies in the timeline of Isabella's care.

It did not immediately establish what had caused her death.

But it raised enough questions to justify further examination.

Adrian sat in his office reading the report.

His hands trembled.

Daniel Ross stood nearby.

“Sir?”

Adrian didn't look up.

“I want every relevant record preserved.”

Daniel nodded.

“Already requested.”

Adrian closed the folder.

“And I want the truth.”

Meanwhile, Emma's licensing case began moving forward.

Rebecca Sloan obtained statements from former nurses.

One had witnessed unauthorized record changes.

Another had reported similar concerns.

A third had been pressured to withdraw a complaint.

Emma read their statements with tears in her eyes.

“I wasn't alone,” she whispered.

Rebecca nodded.

“No.”

“Why didn't we know about each other?”

“Because each of you was made to believe the problem was yours.”

Emma stared at the papers.

Then slowly straightened.

“I want to testify.”

Rebecca looked at her.

“Are you sure?”

Emma nodded.

“Yes.”

“It may be difficult.”

“I know.”

May you like

Emma took a breath.

“But I won't be silent anymore.”
