Chapter 10 - THE TRUTH ABOUT DR. WHITMORE

The investigation into Dr. Samuel Whitmore expanded.
Regulatory authorities reviewed medical records, pharmacy documentation, and staff complaints.
Investigators examined whether he had falsified records and concealed medication errors.
Several former employees agreed to provide testimony.
Emma was among them.
On the morning of her interview, Adrian drove her to the attorney's office.
She stared at the building.
“I'm nervous.”
Adrian nodded.
“I know.”
“What if they don't believe me?”
He looked at her.
“Then you tell the truth anyway.”
Emma smiled faintly.
“That's easy for you to say.”
Adrian shook his head.
“No. It isn't.”
She looked at him.
He continued.
“I've spent years surrounded by people who tell me what I want to hear. You taught me how dangerous that can be.”
Emma's eyes filled.
“Thank you.”
He squeezed her hand.
“Go tell them what you know.”
Emma testified for several hours.
She described the discrepancies she had observed.
The complaints she filed.
The response from hospital leadership.
The circumstances of her dismissal.
She answered questions carefully.
When she didn't remember something, she said so.
When she wasn't certain, she refused to guess.
By the end, she was exhausted.
But she had done it.
Weeks later, the hospital announced that Dr. Whitmore had been removed from clinical duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
Additional disciplinary and legal proceedings followed.
The review substantiated serious recordkeeping violations and failures to address reported safety concerns.
Emma's professional licensing matter was reopened.
Adrian received separate news concerning Isabella.
The independent review concluded that significant lapses in documentation and clinical oversight had occurred during her care.
The available evidence supported further legal action, although not every question about causation could be answered.
Adrian sat quietly after reading the findings.
Emma sat beside him.
“I'm sorry,” she whispered.
He nodded.
“I wanted certainty.”
“I know.”
“I wanted someone to tell me exactly why she died.”
Emma took his hand.
“Sometimes the truth comes in pieces.”
Adrian closed his eyes.
“Then I'll keep looking.”

Emma leaned against him.
“You don't have to do it alone.”
