Chapter 8 - THE SECRET CAMERA IN ISABELLA'S CAR

The evidence came from an old storage device recovered among Isabella's belongings.
Dante's investigator had found it inside a sealed box of personal papers.
It contained several short video recordings from a camera installed in Isabella's car.
Dante invited me to review the footage with an attorney present.
I agreed.
The first recording showed Isabella driving through Manhattan.
She looked tired.
Nervous.
Then she spoke.
"If anyone finds this, my name is Isabella Moretti."
My heart stopped.
She looked toward the camera.
"I believe someone is following me."
Dante's jaw tightened.
Isabella continued.
"I found documents suggesting my adoptive father concealed information about my twin sister."
My eyes filled.
"I don't know why."
She swallowed.
"But I know someone doesn't want us to meet."
The recording ended.
I covered my mouth.
Dante stared at the screen.
There were three more videos.
In one, Isabella described a meeting with a private investigator.
In another, she mentioned a man who had approached her outside a restaurant.
The final recording was dated two days before her death.
Isabella looked frightened.
"I found the original adoption file."
She paused.
"It wasn't an ordinary separation."
My heart pounded.
She looked directly at the camera.
"Someone paid to make sure we were raised apart."
The recording ended.
I sat frozen.
Dante turned toward the attorney.
"Can we identify who made the payment?"
The attorney nodded.
"We'll need the original records."
I looked at Dante.
"Who would do something like that?"
He shook his head.
May you like
"I don't know."
But his expression told me he had a suspicion.
