Chapter 13 - THE WOMAN WHO CHOSE HER OWN FUTURE

The estate settlement changed my financial situation.
For the first time in my life, I didn't have to worry about rent.
But I didn't want money to become the only thing that defined me.
I enrolled in a hospitality management program.
I had spent years working in restaurants.
I knew the industry.
I loved feeding people.
And I wanted to build something of my own.
Dante offered to help.
I thanked him.
Then told him I wanted to make the decisions myself.
He smiled.
"I expected that."
Over the following year, I developed a business plan for a small restaurant.
Not luxurious.
Not exclusive.
A warm neighborhood place where families could eat without feeling judged.
I named it Two Sisters Kitchen.
The name made Dante quiet.
"Isabella would have loved that."
I smiled.
"I hope so."
Rosa helped me choose recipes.
Margaret offered advice.
And Dante occasionally visited with Luca.
The restaurant opened on a sunny spring afternoon.
The walls were painted cream.
Fresh flowers stood on every table.
And beside the entrance hung a photograph.
Two little girls.
Holding hands.
Smiling.
Underneath it were the words:
Some bonds survive every distance.
I stood beneath the photograph and cried.
May you like
Not because I was sad.
Because I had finally built something that belonged to me.
