Chapter 11 - THE MAN WHO LOST HIS EMPIRE

Dante's separation from me forced him to confront more than his marriage.

For years, he had built his life around power.

He controlled businesses.

Men.

Territory.

Money.

But he couldn't control whether his wife loved him.

He couldn't force his son to recognize him.

And he couldn't command forgiveness.

So he began changing.

He withdrew from several criminal operations and worked with counsel to restructure legitimate businesses.

He replaced men who used violence as their first solution.

He spent more time with Leo.

Less time in meetings.

And he began seeing a therapist.

When Matteo told me, I was surprised.

“Dante?”

Matteo smiled faintly.

“Yes.”

“Voluntarily?”

“Yes.”

I almost laughed.

Then grew quiet.

Because I remembered the man I'd married.

The man who believed vulnerability was weakness.

The man who thought apologies were unnecessary if he could buy something expensive enough.

Now he was learning to speak honestly about his mistakes.

I was glad.

Not because I expected him to become my husband again.

But because Leo deserved a father who understood love was more important than power.
