Chapter 12 - THE WOMAN WHO TAUGHT HIM TO REST

Adrian began changing.

Not overnight.

Not magically.

But steadily.

He started eating regular meals.

Sleeping more.

Delegating work.

And attending therapy to address the grief and trauma he'd carried since Sofia's death.

Evelyn never tried to fix him.

She didn't treat him like a project.

She simply refused to pretend he was invincible.

One evening, she found him working at midnight.

He was sitting at his desk, surrounded by contracts.

She crossed her arms.

“Adrian.”

He looked up.

“Yes?”

“When did you last eat?”

He smiled.

“Here we go again.”

“Answer.”

“Seven.”

“Seven what?”

“Seven o'clock.”

She nodded.

“Good.”

Then she looked at the clock.

“And when are you going to sleep?”

“Soon.”

She raised an eyebrow.

He sighed.

“Evelyn.”

She stepped closer.

“You can't keep treating your body like an inconvenience.”

He reached for her hand.

“I know.”

She smiled.

“Then prove it.”

He closed the laptop.

She looked surprised.

“That easy?”

He laughed.

“Don't get used to it.”

May you like

Then he stood.

And kissed her.
