Chapter 13 - THE WOMAN WHO WALKED OUT OF HIS EMPIRE

Tessa resigned from Shore Enterprises six months later.
Mercer had been arrested.
The investigation was ongoing.
Lily was safe.
And Tessa wanted a life that didn't revolve around fear.
She placed her resignation letter on Gideon's desk.
He read it.
Then looked up.
“You're leaving.”
She nodded.
“Yes.”
He swallowed.
“Why?”
Tessa smiled sadly.
“Because I need to know who I am when I'm not hiding.”
Gideon studied her.
Then nodded.
“I understand.”
She hesitated.
“I also need to know that whatever happens between us isn't because you're my boss.”
Silence.
Gideon looked at her.
“Whatever happens between us?”
Her cheeks warmed.
She looked away.
“I didn't mean—”
“Tessa.”
She looked up.
He smiled faintly.
“I understand that too.”
Her eyes filled.
He stood.
Then offered his hand.
“Thank you for three years of extraordinary work.”
She laughed through tears.
“Thank you for finally learning how to use your calendar.”
Gideon laughed.
For the first time in years, it was genuine.
Tessa shook his hand.
Then walked out.
Not running.
May you like
Not hiding.
