Chapter 7 - THE MAN WHO FINALLY CHOSE HIS FAMILY

Adrian arrived that evening.
Alone.
I opened the door.
“Your mother came here.”
His expression changed.
“I know.”
I stared.
“You know?”
He nodded.
“She told me.”
“And?”
His jaw tightened.
“I told her she is not to contact you or the boys without your permission.”
I blinked.
Nine years earlier, Adrian would have asked me to understand her.
To be patient.
To forgive.
Now he stood in my hallway looking furious.
“She threatened me,” I said.
His expression hardened.
“What did she say?”
“That this wasn't finished.”
Adrian closed his eyes.
Then whispered:
“I'm sorry.”
I looked at him.
“Adrian—”
“No.”
He shook his head.
“I should have stopped her years ago.”
His voice cracked.
“You were my wife.”
I swallowed.
“I know.”
“And I let her make you feel like you didn't belong.”
Tears filled my eyes.
He looked down.
“I can't change what happened.”
Then he met my gaze.
“But I can make sure it never happens again.”
For a moment, I saw the young man I had loved.
Not the powerful boss.
Not the billionaire.
Just Adrian.
The boy who had once held me in a freezing apartment and promised me a kingdom.
I took a breath.
“Then prove it.”
May you like
He nodded.
“I will.”
