Chapter 13 - THE LAST LESSON FROM ENZO

One year after Enzo's death, Dante opened a small community kitchen in his brother's name.
It served meals to families struggling with food insecurity.
Gabriel helped design the menu.
Marisol volunteered on weekends.
Sofia insisted the kitchen needed a mural.
The mural showed a red sailboat on Lake Michigan.
Dante smiled when he saw it.
During the opening ceremony, Gabriel stood beside him.
For months, the two brothers had struggled to build a relationship.
They had different childhoods.
Different memories.
Different wounds.
But they shared Enzo.
Gabriel looked at Dante.
“Do you think he'd like this?”
Dante nodded.
“He'd complain that the bread wasn't fresh enough.”
Gabriel laughed.
“Definitely.”
Dante stepped to the microphone.
He looked at the families gathered before him.
“My brother believed nobody should go hungry.”
His voice tightened.
“He didn't care where you came from. He didn't care what you owned.”
He paused.
“He just wanted to make sure you had a seat at the table.”
Dante looked toward Sofia.
She smiled.
“And he believed small acts of kindness mattered.”
The audience applauded.
Afterward, Sofia approached him.
“Dante?”
“Yes?”
“Can we put Enzo's favorite cookies on the menu?”
Dante smiled.
“Of course.”
She nodded.
“Good.”
Then she looked at the mural.
“Because he shouldn't be forgotten.”
May you like
Dante knelt beside her.
“He won't be.”
