Chapter 11 - THE BROTHERS WHO LOST TWELVE YEARS

Dominic traveled to Maine after investigators confirmed Adrian's identity and Adrian agreed to meet him.
I accompanied him.
Not as his nurse.
Not as someone responsible for keeping him calm.
As a friend.
We arrived at a small house overlooking the Atlantic.
Adrian stood near the porch.
For a moment, Dominic couldn't move.
I had never seen him afraid of another human being.
Now he looked terrified.
Adrian stepped forward.
“Dom?”
Dominic's face crumpled.
“Adrian?”
The brothers stared at each other.
Twelve years of grief stood between them.
Then Dominic crossed the yard.
He wrapped his arms around Adrian.
Adrian held him tightly.
Neither spoke.
I turned away.
Some moments belonged only to the people who had survived them.
Later, Adrian told us what happened.
Their father had been involved in a trafficking and coercion network connected to Blackwater House.
Adrian discovered evidence of illegal shipments and the exploitation of vulnerable families.
He refused to sign a false statement.
Their father arranged for him to be confined under Eleanor's control.
Adrian had survived the fire.
But he was kept under false identities for years.
Eventually, he escaped the most restrictive facilities.
He lived quietly in Maine while trying to gather enough evidence to expose the network.
“Why didn't you contact Dominic?” I asked.
Adrian looked at his brother.
“Because Eleanor told me Dom was involved.”
Dominic went still.
“What?”
“She said you knew everything.”
Dominic shook his head.
“I didn't.”
Adrian nodded.
“I know that now.”
The brothers sat together.
For a long time, neither spoke.
Then Adrian smiled faintly.
“You still hate olives?”
Dominic laughed through tears.
“More than ever.”
Adrian grinned.
“Good. Some things never change.”
I watched them.
For the first time, the story of Blackwater House contained something other than loss.
May you like
It contained a reunion.
And hope.
