Chapter 7 - THE REAL REASON BIANCA WANTED HIM

Bianca's betrayal went beyond jealousy.
She had been working with her older brother, Lorenzo DeLuca.
Lorenzo controlled a rival criminal organization operating along Chicago's industrial corridor.
For years, he'd wanted access to Adrian's shipping contracts and financial network.
Bianca's relationship with Adrian had given him an opening.
She encouraged Adrian to spend more time away from home.
Created arguments between him and Elena.
Intercepted messages.
And slowly positioned herself as the only person Adrian could trust.
The plan was simple.
Destroy Adrian's marriage.
Marry him.
Gain influence over his business decisions.
Then help Lorenzo take control of valuable assets.
But Sofia complicated everything.
A child could strengthen Elena's legal and personal connection to Adrian.
Bianca couldn't allow that.
So she concealed the pregnancy.
And when she learned Elena had given birth, she began preparing a second plan.
One that involved forcing Elena to leave Chicago permanently.
Adrian learned about it from a recovered communication between Bianca and Lorenzo.
The message was short.
The wife and child are still a problem. We need them gone before the divorce is final.
Adrian stared at the words.
Then looked at Gabriel.
“Have you given this to the police?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
Gabriel hesitated.
“Adrian, Lorenzo may become desperate.”
Adrian looked toward the window.
“Then Elena and Sofia need protection.”
Gabriel nodded.
“I'll coordinate with their attorney.”
Adrian turned.
“And Gabriel?”
“Yes?”
“Don't make Elena feel watched.”
His head of security looked surprised.
Adrian continued.
“She has spent eight years living in my shadow.”

His voice softened.
“I'm not going to turn her freedom into another prison.”
