Chapter 10 - THE BROTHER WHO CAME HOME

Luca returned to Boston in autumn.
He was thirty-four.
Still thin.
Still recovering.
But alive.
Dante met him at the airport.
For a moment, neither moved.
Then Luca smiled.
“Are you going to stand there all day?”
Dante laughed.
They embraced.
For a long time, neither spoke.
Luca eventually pulled back.
“You look terrible.”
Dante smiled.
“Good to see you too.”
They drove along the harbor.
Luca watched the water.
“So much has changed.”
Dante nodded.
“Yes.”
Luca looked at him.
“And you?”
Dante hesitated.
“I hope so.”
Luca smiled faintly.
“Gemma told me about the fund.”
Dante looked over.
“She did?”
Luca nodded.
“She also told me you finally learned how to ask for help.”
Dante laughed.
“She's very persuasive.”
Luca studied him.
“You love her.”
Dante went silent.
Luca smiled.
“You do.”
Dante looked toward the road.
“Yes.”
May you like
Luca leaned back.
“Then don't waste another eleven years.”
