Chapter 11 - THE WOMAN WHO OWNED HER FUTURE

The trust dispute ended after months of legal work.

The documents confirmed my ownership interest in Bennett Atlantic Holdings.

The fraudulent transfers were challenged.

And the business interests connected to my grandfather's estate were placed under independent management while the remaining issues were resolved.

For the first time, I had full access to information about assets that had always belonged to me.

Miriam called with the news.

"Elena, you have options."

I smiled.

"I know."

She laughed.

"That's new."

I looked around the little blue house.

It had become home.

Isabella's toys filled the living room.

Her tiny shoes rested beside the door.

A photograph of my grandfather hung above the fireplace.

I didn't want to return to Chicago.

I wanted to build something here.

So I did.

I established a small investment company focused on supporting women-owned coastal businesses.

I hired experienced professionals.

I learned the operations.

And I made decisions based on my own judgment.

Not Dante's.

Not Salvatore's.

Mine.

When Dante heard about the company, he sent a message through Miriam.

I'm proud of you.

I stared at the words.

Then replied:

Thank you.

Nothing more.

Because I no longer needed his approval.

May you like

But I could accept a kind word without surrendering my independence.

That was progress too.
