Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO SIGNED THE MEDICAL REPORT
The investigator located the retired physician's former assistant.
Her name was Dr. Sofia Bellini.
She had worked at the hospital during Luca's treatment.
When Luca met her, she was visibly nervous.
“I didn't know what they were planning,” she said.
Luca stared.
“Who?”
Sofia swallowed.
“Your brother.”
My stomach tightened.
She continued.
“Matteo approached the clinic after your accident.”
Luca's jaw hardened.
“He wanted the results changed?”
Sofia nodded.
“He wanted the report to state that you could never father children.”
I stared at her.
“Why?”
Sofia looked at Luca.
“Because your father's succession documents favored the eldest son who could produce a direct heir.”
Luca closed his eyes.
For twelve years, his brother had benefited from a lie.
A lie that had shaped Luca's marriage.
