Chapter 11 - THE MOTHER WHO KNEW THE TRUTH
Luca's mother, Isabella Varenna, finally confessed.
She had suspected the medical report was false.
But she'd been afraid of what would happen if she challenged Matteo.
She had also known about suspicious payments connected to the accident.
Luca stared at her.
“You knew?”
Isabella began crying.
“I was afraid.”
He looked away.
“For twelve years?”
She covered her face.
“I thought I was protecting both my sons.”
Luca's voice broke.
“You protected one by destroying the other.”
Isabella sobbed.
I stood beside Luca.
I wanted to comfort him.
But I knew some wounds couldn't be healed with words.
He looked at his mother.
“You will never make decisions about my wife or child.”
Isabella nodded through tears.
“I understand.”

And for the first time, he stopped allowing family loyalty to excuse cruelty.
