Chapter 14 - THE WEDDING WHERE NO ONE WAS AFRAID

Our wedding took place at Daniel's Table.
We closed the restaurant for the weekend.
Decorated it with white flowers.
And invited the people who had helped us rebuild our lives.
Eli walked me down the aisle.
He wore a navy suit.
His eyes filled with tears.
"You ready?" he whispered.
I smiled.
"Are you?"
He laughed.
"Not even a little."
Roman stood at the front.
He looked nervous.
When I reached him, he took my hand.
Gently.
During our vows, he promised never to confuse love with control.
I promised honesty.
Partnership.
And a life where we would always be free to choose each other.
Afterward, we celebrated with food from my restaurant.
There was laughter.
Music.
And a cake Eli insisted on decorating himself.
It leaned slightly to one side.
Roman stared at it.
"Is that safe?"
I laughed.
"Probably not."
Eli grinned.
"Eat it anyway."
May you like
And we did.
For the first time, the Mercer family celebrated something without secrets.
