Chapter 13 - THE PROPOSAL IN THE OLD GARAGE

Roman proposed in my father's old garage.
The building had been restored.
The tools were cleaned.
The old truck sat in the corner.
I hadn't been there in months.
Roman asked me to meet him on a Saturday afternoon.
When I arrived, the lights were on.
Eli stood near the workbench.
He smiled.
"Tess."
I frowned.
"What's going on?"
He stepped aside.
Roman stood beside Dad's old truck.
He held a small velvet box.
My heart stopped.
Roman approached.
"Tessa Vaughn."
I began crying.
"When I met you, I thought I knew what power meant."
He smiled sadly.
"You taught me that respect is something you earn."
He lowered himself onto one knee.
"Will you marry me?"
I laughed through tears.
"Yes."
Eli cheered.
Roman slipped the ring onto my finger.
And for a moment, I could almost imagine Dad standing beside the truck.
Smiling.
Proud.
I whispered, "He would have liked you."
May you like
Roman's eyes filled.
"I hope so."
