Chapter 6 - THE NIGHT OLIVER DISAPPEARED

Evelyn was released temporarily under strict house detention while awaiting trial.

Her attorney argued her age and health made detention dangerous.

Two nights later, Oliver disappeared from Luke Harmon’s secured guesthouse.

The alarm never sounded.

A security employee had disabled it using an administrator code.

Maya entered Oliver’s bedroom and found the window open.

His blue blanket was gone.

So was his emergency medication bag.

On the pillow lay a note.

A child belongs with the person capable of protecting his future.

Ryan did not shout.

He called police.

Then Mark Ellis, the company’s security director, traced the administrator account.

It belonged to Ryan’s sister, Claire Whitmore.

Claire had spent years pretending neutrality.

She had visited Evelyn that afternoon.

Police found her car abandoned near the family’s private airfield.

Inside was Oliver’s shoe.

Maya nearly collapsed.

Ryan held her.

“We will find him.”

“Do not promise what you cannot control.”

He stopped.

“You are right.”

He corrected himself.

“We will use everything available, and we will not stop.”

Flight records showed a medical transport plane scheduled to depart for Switzerland.

The patient was listed as a three-year-old boy requiring respiratory treatment.

Guardian:

Evelyn Whitmore.

Federal agents stopped the plane before departure.

Oliver sat inside strapped to a medical seat.

Evelyn wore a navy coat and held his inhaler.

Claire stood behind her crying.

“I thought she was taking him somewhere safe,” Claire said.

Oliver reached toward Maya the moment she entered the hangar.

“Mommy.”

Maya took him carefully.

His breathing remained stable.

This time, the inhaler had not been withheld.

Evelyn needed him alive.

Ryan looked at his mother.

“You kidnapped my son.”

“I rescued him.”

“From whom?”

“From a woman who will spend his inheritance and a son too weak to protect the Whitmore name.”

Ryan stared at her.

“The name is the danger.”

Evelyn was arrested again.

Claire cooperated and revealed the escape plan.

She had helped because Evelyn threatened to expose financial crimes Claire committed years earlier.

Fear still powered the family.

May you like

But it no longer guaranteed silence.
