Chapter 7 - THE NIGHT THE BLUEPRINTS DISAPPEARED

Christa's architecture office was broken into two nights later.
The intruder ignored the computers.
Ignored the petty cash.
Ignored the expensive equipment.
Instead, someone opened her project archives.
And stole the original Bellweather blueprints.
Christa arrived the next morning to find police examining the office.
Her assistant, Nina, stood near the door.
“They didn't take anything else.”
Christa looked at the empty filing cabinet.
Her stomach tightened.
“Those drawings were my mother's.”
Nina nodded.
“I know.”
Christa closed her eyes.
The blueprints had been hand-drafted by Evelyn Dempsey.
Detailed elevations.
Structural notes.
Old foundation plans.
And a greenhouse layout that didn't match the current building.
Christa remembered noticing that discrepancy years earlier.
She'd assumed the greenhouse had been renovated.
Now she wasn't sure.
Her phone buzzed.
A message from an unknown number.
STOP LOOKING UNDER THE GLASS.
Christa stared.
Then called Leo.
He answered immediately.
“Christa?”
She swallowed.
“They took the plans.”
His voice hardened.
“Who?”
“I don't know.”

She looked toward the broken cabinet.
“But I think I know what they're searching for.”
