Chapter 15 - THE KISS THAT BECAME FOREVER

One year later, Evelyn Vale walked down the aisle of a small chapel overlooking the Hudson River.

She wore a simple ivory dress.

Her hair was pinned loosely at the back.

She carried white peonies.

Megan stood beside her.

“You look beautiful.”

Evelyn smiled.

“Thank you.”

Megan adjusted her veil.

“Remember when you kissed a stranger at that gala?”

Evelyn laughed.

“Unfortunately.”

Megan grinned.

“I still think it was the most reckless thing you've ever done.”

Evelyn smiled.

“Probably.”

Then the music began.

At the front of the chapel stood Lucien Moretti.

He wore a dark suit.

No bodyguards.

No entourage.

No performance.

Just a man waiting for the woman he loved.

When Evelyn reached him, his eyes filled.

“You came,” he whispered.

She smiled.

“I was prepared to disappoint you.”

He laughed.

“Cruel woman.”

“Dangerous man.”

They exchanged vows.

Not promises of perfection.

Not declarations that love would solve every problem.

They promised honesty.

Respect.

Partnership.

They promised to keep choosing each other even when life became difficult.

And when Lucien kissed his bride, the chapel erupted in applause.

Months later, Vale Events opened a new office.

The company had become one of Manhattan's most respected event planning firms.

Lucien continued rebuilding his businesses under legitimate management and oversight.

He no longer measured success by fear.

One evening, Evelyn stood on the balcony of their home.

The city glittered below.

Lucien approached from behind.

“Thinking?”

She smiled.

“Remembering.”

“What?”

“The night we met.”

He laughed softly.

“You mean the night you attacked me in a ballroom?”

Evelyn turned.

“I prefer the phrase unexpected romantic introduction.”

Lucien smiled.

“Of course.”

She looked at him.

“Do you ever think about what would have happened if I hadn't kissed you?”

He considered.

“Sometimes.”

“And?”

He touched her cheek.

“I think I would have spent the rest of my life being someone I didn't particularly like.”

Evelyn's eyes softened.

“And now?”

Lucien smiled.

“Now I get to be your husband.”

She laughed.

“That's a dangerous job.”

“So I've been told.”

He kissed her.

And as Manhattan shimmered beneath the stars, Evelyn realized something.

The night she kissed Lucien Moretti, she thought she was escaping her past.

But she hadn't simply escaped.

She had chosen a future.

A future where love didn't require humiliation.

Where protection didn't mean control.

Where honesty mattered more than appearances.

And where the most feared man in the room had learned that the greatest strength wasn't making people afraid.

It was making the person he loved feel free.
