Chapter 3 - The Secret Vault in the Master Cabin

I concealed the micro-recorder inside the lace collar of my satin nightgown, pinning the microphone directly over my collarbone.

From beneath the teak bedframe, I retrieved the ultra-thin, vacuum-sealed thermal survival suit. Engineered by naval defense contractors, the material was no thicker than silk, yet capable of preventing hypothermia in freezing waters while providing automated buoyancy upon water immersion.

I slipped the suit on beneath my oversized cashmere robe, strapping the palm-sized distress transponder against my inner thigh.

Click.

The master cabin door swung open.

I threw myself onto the bed, letting my limbs fall limp, half-closing my eyelids into a vacant, unfocused stare.

Flynn walked in, carrying a fresh porcelain mug of chamomile tea. He wore a crisp linen shirt and a tender, manufactured smile that made my skin crawl with revulsion.

"How is my beautiful bride feeling?" Flynn purred, sitting on the edge of the mattress and gently brushing a lock of hair from my forehead.

"Flynn..." I slurred my words, letting my head roll weakly against the pillow. "My head is spinning so fast... everything feels so heavy..."

"I know, darling," Flynn murmured, setting the mug on the nightstand. "The captain says a small tropical storm is rolling in. The fresh sea air will clear your lungs. Let me help you walk to the aft balcony."

He slipped his strong arm under my waist, hoisting my limp weight from the bed.

As he dragged me through the salon, Aidan and Fiona sat on the leather sofa, sipping vintage port.

Fiona gave me a sweet, sorrowful pout: "Rest well, sweet Elena. Let Flynn take care of you."

I let my head drop against Flynn's shoulder, feeling the micro-recorder beneath my collar capturing every breath, every word, and every heartbeat of their betrayal.
