Chapter 4 - THE $240,000 SIGNATURE

Rachel moved fast.

Not recklessly.

Correctly.

First came temporary custody filings based on the immediate safety concerns.

Then notice to the bank disputing the guarantor document.

Then preservation requests related to the questionable transactions.

A forensic document examiner later found something almost embarrassingly simple.

The electronic signature on the loan guarantee had been imported from a PDF I signed two years earlier.

A tax document.

Same pixel pattern.

Same tiny break in the letter V.

Copied.

The lending portal showed the application originated from an IP address associated with our home.

Account recovery went to Diego’s phone.

Rachel looked at me.

“This does not by itself prove who clicked the button.”

“I know.”

“But it creates a serious problem.”

Good.

No invented certainty.

Then the lender produced correspondence.

Roberto:

Verónica doesn’t like business debt. Diego will handle her approval.

Loan officer:

We need direct consent from guarantor.

Diego:

She’s traveling. I have authority to coordinate family finances.

He did not.

Then another email:

Her signed authorization is attached.

I stared at the screen.

My husband had sent it.

No ambiguity anymore.

Rachel said:

“Now we have substantially more.”

My marriage did not collapse in that moment.

It had already collapsed.

This was simply the autopsy.
