Chapter 9 - JULIAN WITHOUT THE HOUSE

Julian entered a plea months later after prosecutors presented the combined evidence:

The camera.

Nathan’s testimony.

Evelyn’s cooperation.

Financial motive.

Garage break-in.

Recorder removal.

Delayed emergency call.

Attempted property leverage.

The exact charges and sentence were determined through the actual legal process in our story’s world, but he faced serious custodial consequences, restitution, and restrictions.

Evelyn also accepted responsibility for her role.

Neither sentence repaired my skin.

Good.

Courts do consequences.

They do not perform miracles.

Before sentencing, Julian requested permission to send me a statement.

I agreed to read it.

Not meet.

He wrote:

I blamed you for refusing to save us.

That line interested me.

Then:

I believed marriage meant you should use what you had to protect what I built.

Still selfish.

Then:

I called you selfish because I could not admit I had built something that could not survive without taking from you.

Better.

Finally:

I did not see your house as part of you. I saw it as unused money. Then I began seeing you the same way.

I stopped reading.

That was the truth.

Not boiling soup.

Not debt.

Objectification.

House.

Wife.

Collateral.

Resources.

Things.

I finished.

He asked forgiveness.

I did not send an answer.

Forgiveness was not an administrative requirement.

---

The divorce became final.

I kept the house.

Not because a dramatic prenup existed.

Because it was inherited separate property under structures Frank and Sarah had established, subject to the actual legal analysis and adjustments required.

Julian received no magical financial annihilation.

He already had enough consequences.

I retained what was mine.

May you like

That was enough.
