Chapter 8 - THE HOME I ALMOST LOST

Grandma did eventually help me again.
This time directly.
But differently.
She did not hand me $180,000 to erase the past.
We sat with Richard and a financial planner.
I showed them:
My income.
Debts.
Childcare costs.
Rent.
Emergency fund.
Everything.
Humiliating?
At first.
Then liberating.
We created a plan.
Part of the recovered money funded a protected account for Lily.
Part helped me eliminate high-interest debt accumulated after Evan died.
Part became a down payment on a modest two-bedroom townhome.
I insisted on a mortgage I could afford myself.
Grandma protested.
Then respected it.
My editing business grew.
I took on three recurring corporate clients.
Lily started daycare two mornings a week.
I slept more.
