Chapter 15 - THE WEDDING THAT FINALLY BELONGED TO HER

Three years after Ren walked down a church aisle to cancel her wedding, she stood in another chapel.

This one was smaller.

Sunlight streamed through stained-glass windows.

Fresh flowers lined the pews.

Ren wore a simple ivory gown.

Not the dress she'd worn for Derek.

A new one.

Chosen because she loved it.

Her father stood beside her.

“You ready?”

Ren smiled.

“Completely.”

He offered his arm.

They walked toward the altar.

Matteo waited beneath a stone arch.

His scar was visible.

His expression was nervous.

And when he saw Ren, his eyes filled.

Father Molina stood before them.

The same priest who had accepted Ren's decision to cancel her first wedding.

He smiled.

“Welcome back.”

Ren laughed softly.

“Thank you, Father.”

The ceremony began.

When the time came for vows, Ren looked at Matteo.

“Three years ago, I thought my life was falling apart.”

She paused.

“I believed that losing the future I'd planned meant losing everything.”

Her eyes filled.

“But I was wrong.”

She took his hands.

“I wasn't losing my future.”

“I was finding the courage to choose it.”

Matteo swallowed.

Ren continued.

“I promise to love you honestly.”

“To stand beside you without surrendering myself.”

“And to keep choosing the truth, even when it's difficult.”

Matteo smiled through tears.

Then he spoke.

“Ren, I spent most of my life believing power meant control.”

He paused.

“But you taught me that real strength means knowing when to let go.”

His voice broke.

“I promise never to make your world smaller.”

“I promise to respect your choices.”

“And I promise to spend every day becoming someone worthy of the trust you give me.”

Father Molina smiled.

They exchanged rings.

And when he pronounced them married, Matteo kissed Ren gently.

The chapel erupted in applause.

Later, at the reception, Ren stood beside the windows overlooking Boston Harbor.

Matteo approached.

“Mrs. Caruso?”

She turned.

“Actually, I'm keeping Navarro professionally.”

He laughed.

“Of course you are.”

She smiled.

“Still want to dance with me?”

Matteo offered his hand.

“Always.”

They stepped onto the dance floor.

Ren looked around.

At her parents.

Her friends.

The people who had helped her rebuild her life.

She thought about Derek.

Cassandra.

The linen closet.

The forged document.

The grandfather who had left her a map.

She thought about the man who had walked into her first wedding and stopped a lie from becoming her future.

And she realized something.

The most important person who had saved her that day wasn't Matteo.

It was herself.

She had chosen to speak.

Chosen to leave.

Chosen to investigate.

Chosen to rebuild.

Matteo had helped.

But the courage had been hers.

He leaned closer.

“What are you thinking?”

Ren smiled.

“That I'm exactly where I want to be.”

He kissed her forehead.

Outside, the harbor glittered beneath the evening sky.

And Ren Navarro, once the bride who had walked away from a liar, danced with the man who had learned to love her without trying to own her.

This time, there were no secrets waiting behind closed doors.

Only music.

May you like

Only truth.

And a future they had chosen together.
