Chapter 5 - THE GIRL WHO REMEMBERED

Chloe testified privately.
Not in court.
Not publicly.
A child specialist asked questions.
“What do you remember from that night?”
Chloe held her stuffed rabbit.
“I remember Daddy crying.”
Rebecca looked surprised.
“Your father was crying?”
“He said he trusted the wrong person.”
Then:
“Mr. Parker came in.”
“What happened?”
“I went upstairs.”
“Why?”
“Daddy told me.”
Chloe paused.
“He said, ‘Be quiet. Be brave. Protect Mommy.’”
Elena covered her mouth.
