Chapter 3 - THE WITNESS WHO LIED

The first thing investigators discovered was the neighbor.
Linda Harper.
The woman who claimed she saw Elena leaving the house.
After five years, Linda agreed to speak again.
This time under oath.
“I was scared.”
Rebecca stared.
“Scared of what?”
Linda looked down.
“Thomas Parker.”
The room went silent.
“He told me if I didn't say what I saw, I would lose my home.”
Rebecca frowned.
“What did you actually see?”
Linda whispered:
“I saw Elena arrive.”
Not leave.
Arrive.
“She came home around 7:30.”
Daniel was already inside.
“And then?”
“Thirty minutes later, Thomas arrived.”
The entire foundation of the case shifted.
“Why didn't you say this?”
Linda cried.
“Because Thomas knew things about my family.”
Threats.
Financial pressure.
Fear.
The original prosecution witness had not lied because she hated Elena.
She lied because someone forced her.
But that was only the beginning.
The review team examined evidence from the original trial.
The knife.
The blood.
The timeline.
Then they found something impossible.
The blood on Elena’s clothing had never been tested for transfer patterns.
Meaning:
Nobody had proven how it got there.
Rebecca looked at the report.
“Someone assumed.”
Elena nodded.
“Everyone assumed.”
For five years, assumptions had been treated as facts.

Then Chloe’s discovery opened the door.
And behind that door was something much darker.
