Chapter 7 - The Night the Accounts Went Dark

Jonathan remained free while prosecutors built the case.
He used that freedom badly.
One night, Pierce Meridian’s payment systems began failing.
Vendors could not access transfers.
Employees received warnings that payroll might be delayed.
Jonathan released a statement blaming Ashford Global.
He accused my father and me of freezing accounts to force a takeover.
The statement was false.
Marcus traced the disruption to administrative credentials Jonathan retained through an old emergency account.
He had attempted to create a liquidity crisis.
His plan was simple.
Damage the company.
Blame me.
Return as the only executive capable of saving it.
Jonathan had always mistaken arson for leadership.
He logged into systems from the Rhode Island estate purchased through Blake Ridge Holdings.
Federal agents raided the property before dawn.
They found company servers, forged loan documents, passports, cash, and a prepared press release announcing my arrest for financial sabotage.
They also found a suitcase packed for another country.
Jonathan was arrested for fraud, obstruction, unauthorized system access, and attempted destruction of records.
As agents led him out, reporters asked whether he still considered himself chief executive.
“I built Pierce Meridian,” he shouted.
The board terminated him that afternoon.
Payroll was restored through Meridian Harbor’s emergency facility.
Employees received every dollar on time.
Jonathan expected the company to die without him.
Instead, it operated more efficiently once he lost access.

That may have been the consequence he hated most.
