Chapter 6 - Patricia’s Perfect Family

Patricia’s financial records revealed that Pierce Meridian had funded her lifestyle for years.

Club dues.

Home renovations.

Luxury travel.

Personal staff.

She called the payments family support.

Investors called them misappropriation.

When federal investigators questioned her, she blamed Jonathan.

“He insisted on caring for me.”

Messages showed otherwise.

Patricia routinely demanded money and threatened to reveal Jonathan’s affair if he refused.

She had not merely tolerated Cassandra.

She used the affair as leverage.

In one message, Patricia wrote:

Rachel must remain until the Ashford money is no longer necessary. Cassandra can wait.

Jonathan replied:

Rachel doesn’t know who her father is to the lenders.

Patricia answered:

Then keep her ignorant.

They believed my distance from my father made me powerless.

They never imagined I still communicated with Meridian Harbor through encrypted governance channels.

Patricia accepted a cooperation agreement.

Like Cassandra, she chose herself when consequences arrived.

She admitted helping Jonathan conceal company transfers.

She admitted preparing the custody narrative.

She admitted encouraging him to keep me financially isolated.

During her sworn interview, an investigator asked why she disliked me.

Patricia answered:

“Rachel never seemed grateful.”

“For what?”

“For being accepted by our family.”

“You believed she was poor?”

“Yes.”

“Would your treatment have changed if you knew she was wealthy?”

Patricia hesitated.

That hesitation revealed the entire value system.

Respect was not moral.

It was transactional.

She had been willing to humiliate me because she believed no powerful person would object.

The moment my father entered the ballroom, she became frightened.

Not remorseful.

Frightened.

That difference followed her into court.
