He sat in the same booth where he'd thrown the cup.

“Coffee?”
He smiled faintly.
“Please.”
I poured it.
He watched me.
“Emily.”
“Yes?”
“I'm sorry.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“For the cup?”
“For the cup.”
He paused.
“And for frightening everyone.”
I set the pot down.
“Good.”
He smiled.
Then looked toward the window.
“I think I need to change my life.”
I sat across from him.
“Then change it.”
He looked at me.
“Just like that?”
I shook my head.
“No.”
