Chapter 9 - The Standing Titan and the Handcuffs

================================================================================

A collective, deafening gasp sucked the air from the entire 50th floor.

Reporters scrambled to their feet, knocking over chairs as motor-drives clicked in a blinding, frenzied storm of camera flashes.

Alexander Bennett stood six-foot-two in an immaculate bespoke navy three-piece suit. His posture was upright, his stride commanding, his shoulders broad and powerful. There was no wheelchair. There was no cane. There was no hesitation.

He walked down the center aisle of the boardroom like a Roman emperor returning from a conquered province.

Beside him walked Clara Evans, elegant and radiant in an ivory wool blazer, holding a heavy titanium briefcase containing two years of decrypted forensic evidence.

Julian staggered backward, his knees knocking against the boardroom chair, his face turning an ungodly shade of greenish gray.

“You... you're walking?!” Julian shrieked, his voice cracking into a high, hysterical pitch. “That’s impossible! Dr. Vance said your lumbar nerves were completely atrophied!”

“They were atrophied because you spent twenty-four months poisoning my daily medications with Paratoxin-7, Julian,” Alexander stated, his deep baritone cutting through the room with razor-sharp legal clarity.

Alexander stepped to the head of the table, placing his heavy gold signet ring flat against the glass.

“Let’s review the criminal docket, cousin,” Alexander said coldly.

Clara clicked the encrypted tablet in her hands, linking it directly to the boardroom’s dual ninety-inch presentation displays.

The forged medical records on the screens vanished, replaced by a devastating wall of federal evidence:

The Lake Shore Drive Sabotage: Time-stamped surveillance logs showing Julian’s private mechanic cutting the hydraulic brake lines of Alexander’s vehicle in the underground executive garage two years earlier.

The Chemical Supply Chain: Wire transfers totaling $480,000 paid to an illicit offshore laboratory in Grand Cayman for monthly shipments of concentrated neuro-toxins.

The Embezzlement: $34 million systematically siphoned from the Bennett logistics escrow accounts to cover Julian’s catastrophic losses in illegal Macau gambling syndicates.

Julian’s hands shook so violently he dropped his remote control onto the carpet. “This is a setup! This is forged! The woman standing beside him is just a hired domestic servant!”

“The woman standing beside me,” Alexander roared, his voice shaking the glass windows, “is the woman who saved my life twenty years ago, and the woman who saved me from your poison!”

Detective Marcus Stone stepped forward, unholstering heavy steel handcuffs.

“Julian Bennett,” Detective Stone announced. “You are under arrest for Attempted Capital Murder, Corporate Sabotage, Aggravated Wire Fraud, and the Unlawful Administration of Controlled Chemical Toxins.”

Click. Snap.

The steel ratchets locked tightly around Julian’s manicured wrists.

Julian thrashed, screaming in blind panic as two federal marshals forced him away from the table, dragging him past the row of cameras that documented every second of his public, irreversible destruction.

Alexander turned his gaze to the fifty stunned board members.

“Resolution 402 is permanently vacated,” Alexander declared with absolute authority. “I am back. And the Bennett empire will be run with clean hands.”

The entire boardroom erupted into a thunderous, standing ovation.
